This screening tool helps evaluating our PV Power Block, an optimized ground-mounted solar photo-voltaic system which is intended to conserve land generating more energy per occupied area. As an illustration, let’s investigate re-powering of an existing solar plant.
Navigate to the Merit Si PV Power Block screening tool and click on Get Started button. After logging in click on Create New Project link, enter Project Name, its Description, and click on Create button and Next button.
Now we need to draw power block array on the Location page. First, in the Address field type “Desoto Solar Farm” and select the first entry from the autocomplete drop-down list .
Click on the zoom out button in the map’s lower right corner to fit existing solar plant on the page. Select the shape drawing tool in the map’s upper right corner and draw one of the solar arrays by clicking around its area. Close the poly-line by clicking on the starting point and repeat the procedure to draw two other arrays.
You can always click on Clear Map button and start over. Click Next button at the bottom of the page to save location and navigate to the Losses screen. Leave default losses for now and move to the next page.
For the project in question, the power block is occupying roughly the same area as an existing plant. Note that the power block is 100 MW DC nameplate capacity vs 25 MW of the existing plant. And finally, the power block can generate during its 1st year 145500 MWh of electricity vs 42,000 of the existing plant.
